A BRIDE’S INTERVIEW WITH ANDREA FREEMAN
How long have you been doing what you do and how did you become a wedding and event planner?
When I was 16 years old I had the opportunity to work at a summer camp for girls with disabilities in Kansas City. After I returned home to NY I realized that my town didn’t have a camp like that and should – so I started it. I ran the camp for a number of years and eventually turned it over to the local Girl Scout council when it was time for me to go to college. During those years I discovered that I was not only a great leader, but also a talented Event Planner. Creating events that gave people memories to last a lifetime was not only worthwhile, and felt wonderful, but helped me to realize I need to figure out how to make this my career. And so I did.
In 2005, after wrapping up my first, and only, year as a teacher, I found my calling to open my own company and I launched a catering company. Very quickly, however, my clients recognized my creativity and at their request, I came out of the kitchen to design and plan one-of-a-kind celebrations. While I loved planning events, I absolutely loved planning weddings.
I truly resonated with brides – especially because my own wedding was planned in the midst of a lot of chaos. I had the knowledge and resources and needed to pull it all together in 3 short months. While my future husband was across the country selling his childhood home and organizing tons of other details after losing his mother – I needed to make our dream wedding happen before he was due back at his job as a television producer. I realized that even though life was throwing us some incredible curve balls we still wanted to enjoy the process of planning our dream wedding. I drew upon my experience to put together a team of outstanding vendors – and our day was magical.
As I worked with dozens and dozens of brides and their families, I saw a need for a full-service wedding planner that specialized in short-timeline weddings to help struggling, stressed out brides, grooms and families plan and design heir dream wedding days. I had found that wedding planning could bring out the best and the worst in people depending on their stress levels and the support around them.
The best part was when I discovered how to remove “dreaded” parts of wedding planning – Those “dreaded” part being stress, lack of time and know-how. In addition hearing what people really want, deep down inside, and helping them discover who they are and what is truly important to them. My favorite part about tapping into these keys for dream wedding planning is that I learned how to create space for my couples that allows them to enjoy every moment of their engagement and never lose sight of the real reason for their wedding – to savor every moment of being in love and celebrate it with family and friends. Nothing is more important than that!
We love your wedding planning services and portfolio. Everything sounds great. So, can you tell me how you’re different from all the other wedding planners out there?
Andrea Freeman Events is a full-service boutique wedding and event planning company serving New York City Metropolitan Area, Los Angeles and other destination locations. I’m not interested in mass-producing events so I’ve created a boutique planning service that I’m committed to preserving, which allows my Custom Design clients to receive my full and complete attention.
I’m not the cheapest – I just get it right. If that’s what you absolutely need I’m the right one for you. BUMMER!
We will match vendors to your wedding planning needs, tastes, and personality. The success of every wedding depends on the team of professionals chosen to bring it all to life. We have endless resources at our fingertips of only the finest, most reliable vendors in the industry and the most spectacular locations. We guide you quickly and efficiently to exactly what you are looking for and save you time and energy in the process.
The weddings we plan and design alongside our clients are also completely distinct…from one to another, meaning that they are custom to our couples, not to what I love or to what my tastes are. It’s not about me – it’s about you. I’m not like other wedding planners you may have heard of (or encountered) who are trying to recreate their own dream wedding days. You would not be happy if I did that, and neither would I, to be totally honest. This is not about my ego, or making me look good. In fact, I’ve done a nearly perfect job when everything flows seamlessly and my team and I are very much in the background.
I once heard that “if you do what you love you’ll never work another day in your life.” Give me six months or even six weeks to create a one of a kind celebration and I’m in my glory. Nothing thrills me more than new locations, new design requests, or challenging timelines. With a specialty in quick planning, I rarely have more than a year to design a wedding. I’m always ready for a new adventure, and making the impossible not only possible, but also exquisite makes my heart sing! I consider it a compliment when my clients ask me, curiously, how I can produce such luxurious events so quickly. Some things are better left a mystery!
To me being a wedding planner is about more than timelines and checklists. It’s about being a partner, friend, and confidante. It’s about listening and guiding. It’s about inspiring and creating. I want to know who you are and what you love – your favorite foods, art, music, and activities. I love each and every one of my clients and I promise you will always feel that.
Who do you work best with?
You will benefit best from working with me if you want your dream wedding, but you either don’t have the time, the resources, or the know-how to get this done. If you know what you want, but have no idea how to get there, or if you are not clear at all about how to plan the wedding of your dreams, that’s okay. You are the perfect candidate.
Will I lose control of my own wedding if you are planning it for me?
No – of course not. The point of having a wedding planner is to have an extension of who you are and your creativity. That’s what we do. We help you reclaim your free time and embrace your favorite parts of the wedding planning process by taking the stressful parts off your shoulders and flawlessly executing your big vision on time and on budget, just as you imagined.
You are the focus of your wedding and it’s totally your day. We’re just here to help you fully explore your potential and fully realize your wishes in ways you never even thought possible! You will never, ever, lose control. It’s YOUR day. Period.
Do you take credit cards?
Yes. We gladly accept all major credit cards.
Do you have liability insurance?
Yes. We have liability insurance that allows us to work confidently everywhere. We have never needed it, but we are protected to help you feel more secure and safe. You enjoy the peace of mind knowing that we’re fully covered.
Do you take more than one wedding per day?
No, we do not. We only focus on one wedding per day. No more.
This sounds like everything we’ve been looking for. What happens next to start the wedding planning process?
Fabulous! The next step is for you to call me at 646.675.1664 or you can email me to set up a “get acquainted” complimentary session. I want to hear about your vision for your dream wedding day and what you’d love to see your day be like. I’ll be happy to take you through our packages to see which one makes the most sense for you, to show you more from our portfolio, and to describe the process in more detail.
May we contact some of your former clients to see what it’s like to work with you?
Even though our brides, grooms, and their families have become huge fans of our wedding planning services many of them tend to be very private people. They have shared their gratitude for our services in countless letters and emails and you can see those here.
Please feel free to call me with any questions or ideas you may have at 646.675.1664 or you can contact me to discuss your event. Again, congratulations on your engagement and I can’t wait to meet you!
